What is nutrition?

Nutrition is the process our body goes through when it absorbs and assimilates the substances that our body needs in order to function. This biological process is one of the most important to determinate the optimal functioning and health of our body and it is very important to pay the attention and care it deserves.

Nutrition as a science, refers to the nutrients of food and to all the effects and consequences caused by ingesting these nutrients. It is important to separate the concept of food from the concept of nutrition. Food is more related to the conscious act of eating and how it is eaten, rather than the role of these nutrients in the body. In general terms, nutrition deals with solving the energy needs of our body by providing the necessary carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, proteins and any other substances that our body needs to develop activities.
